Relaxing in Sakuragicho, Yokohama

December 31, 2008 by: Clement Nyirenda

One place which I always long to visit whenever I feel like chilling out is Sakuragicho in the Minato Mirai district of Yokohama city. I really like this place and I have discovered that I am not alone in this path. Each time, I go there, I find lots of people chilling out. This place has a beautiful harbor view. The biggest Chinatown in Japan is also very close to this place.

Places of attraction in this area include the Landmark Tower, Japan’s tallest skyscraper, the Queen’s Square shopping mall, the Pacifico convention center, Intercontinental Hotel, Yokohama Museum of Art and more. The Landmark Tower contains the world’s second fastest elevator.

Another feature of attraction in this area is the Ferris wheel. I am told it is the biggest in the world.

    Happy New Year, Clement!

I definitely count Minatomirai into my top 3 places to chill for an afternoon in Tokyo/Yokohama.

And yeah, that elevator ride to the top of Landmark Tower always makes my ears pop, sometimes painfully so.

I have not yet gone on the elevator ride. Next time I visit that place I will make it a point that I ride it. Some friends told that ears really pop during the ride.
